The main character is a miserly court lady, Kougyoku, who is greedy for money. She fell in love with the current emperor, Huang Lianhe, after he saved her from a pinch when she was young, and so she entered the harem to meet him again. While carrying out her duties in the harem, she meets a military officer who reminds her of Lianhe in some way...
